Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

 

2          On 6 May 2015 at about 3.45 am, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted a road block along Lentor Avenue and observed the man behaving suspiciously in a taxi. A search was conducted and loanshark paraphernalia was found in his possession. The man is believed to have committed loanshark harassment at Ang Mo Kio Street 61 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 by splashing paint on debtors’ units and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of residential blocks.

 

3          The suspect will be charged in Court on 7 May 2015 for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
