Police Arrested 3 Men For Assisting In Unlicensed Moneylending Activities

            Police have arrested 3 men, aged between 25 and 48, for their suspected involvement in 3 separate loansharking harassment cases.

 

2          On 11 May 2015 between 5.05pm to 9.20pm, acting on information received, officers from Jurong Police Division arrested the 3 men at Bukit Batok Central, Jurong East Central 1 and along Woodlands Ave 6 respectively, for procuring Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN), to facilitate unlicensed moneylending activities. Police had seized a total of 10 ATM cards and 3 handphones from the 3 men as case exhibits.

 

3          Investigations against the 48-year-old suspect is still on-going, whilst the 25-year-old and 47-year-old suspects will be charged in Court on 13 May 2015. Under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition), first-time offender found guilty of carrying on the business as an unlicensed moneylender or assisting in the business of unlicensed moneylending may be fined not less than $30,000 and not more $300,000, be imprisoned for a term not exceeding four years and shall also be liable to be punished with caning not more than six strokes.
