Suspected Housebreaker Targeting New Public Housing Units Arrested

Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of housebreaking and theft in the Choa Chu Kang public housing estate.

Between 24 May 2015 and 3 June 2015, Police received several reports regarding household appliances, such as sink, stoves, taps and water heaters, being stolen from newly completed residential units. These units were undergoing renovation and were only secured with number locks. The owners eventually found their number locks removed from door entrances and household appliances stolen.

Acting on information received, officers from the Jurong Police Division carried out extensive investigations and ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect. On 3 June 2015 at about 4.30 pm, the officers arrested the suspect near Lower Kent Ridge Road and recovered numerous household appliances from the suspect’s residence, which are believed to be stolen.

The suspect will be charged in the Court on 5 June 2015 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 14 years.
