Public-Spirited Member Of Public And Off-Duty Police Officer Detain Man For Outrage Of Modesty

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty.  

 

On 6 June 2015 at about 11.15pm, a 42-year-old woman was reportedly molested at Jurong West Street 93. After her encounter with the suspect, the victim screamed for help, causing the suspect to flee. The commotion caught the attention of a member of public, Mr Amirul Islam, and an off-duty Police Officer, INSP Soh Beng Kuan, who assisted the victim in detaining the suspect after a short chase. Officers from the Jurong Police Division responded to the scene and arrested the suspect.

 

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. The offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 carries a jail term of up to 2 years, or a fine and can also be liable to caning, upon conviction.
