Police have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of breaking into a public housing unit located at Bukit Batok.
2 On 15 February 2015, the house occupants woke up and discovered their valuables consisting of wallet, camera and handphones stolen from their unit.
3 Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from the Jurong Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 on 09 June 2015 at about 9.45pm. He is also believed to be involved in another similar case reported in the neighbourhood.
4 The suspect will be charged in Court on 11 June 2015 for an offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years and a fine.
5 Property owners should adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are properly secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks;

Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box;

Secure all doors and windows before retiring to bed or when leaving your house unattended, even for a short while; and
-
Install a burglar alarm, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
