Police have arrested a 20-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of housebreaking and theft reported at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3.

On 7 July 2015 at about 9am, the house occupant woke up to find her house had been broken into and discovered that a wallet containing cash and personal documents had been stolen. Upon receiving the report, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of the Police Camera (PolCam), the officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 7 July 2015 at about 1.30pm along Bukit Batok Rd. The stolen items were also recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be also involved for several other break-ins in the neighbourhood.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 July 2015 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;

  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and

  • Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
