Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of Outrage of Modesty on board a Circle Line train.

On 7 June 2015, a 22-year-old woman lodged a police report informing that she had been molested on board a train heading towards Telok Blangah. Officers from the Clementi Division followed up on the police report and conducted extensive ground enquiries to ascertain the identity of the suspect, who was eventually arrested at Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 on 6 July 2015.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. For the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code Chapter 224, the suspect may be jailed for up to two years, or fined, and is also liable to caning.

Members of public are advised to stay calm when they encounter such a crime while travelling on public transport. They should call ‘999’ at once or inform the bus/train captain or seek help from other commuters immediately.
