Police have arrested a 21-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of Housebreaking and Theft at residential units located along Lorong Limau, Upper Boon Keng Road, Bendemeer Road and St George’s Road.

On 9 August 2015, residents from Lorong Limau informed the Police that some of their window louvres along the common corridor had been pried open.

Following the reports, officers from the Crime Strike Force of Kampong Java Neighbourhood Police Centre conducted extensive enquiries and investigation. With the aid of Police Cameras, the suspect’s identity was established. The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Bendemeer Road on 12 August 2015 at about 6 pm, with the assistance of officers from Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre.

Investigation revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed the theft by prying open the window louvres of residential units along common corridors and reached for items placed near windows.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 14 August 2015 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 14 years.

The Police would like to advise the public and all home owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Avoid leaving valuables near openings such as windows and doors.
  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises.
