On 17 August 2015, Police have arrested 2 men, aged 21 and 23, for attempting to rob a taxi driver along Chuan Hoe Avenue.

The men had boarded the victim's taxi along Mandai Road on 17 August 2015 at about 1.44pm, and directed him to proceed to Loyang. Upon reaching the destination, the suspects re-directed the victim to proceed to Chuan Hoe Avenue.

Along Chuan Hoe Avenue, when the victim noticed that one of the suspects is retrieving a knife from the bag, he immediately alighted from his taxi and alerted police. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division responded to the scene promptly and arrested the men who attempted to flee.

Items including knife, gloves, socks, hammer and a spanner were seized for investigations.

Both men will be charged in Court on 19 August 2015 for an offence of Attempted Armed Robbery with common intention under Section 393 read with Section 397 and Section 34 of the Penal Code Chapter 224. Anyone convicted for an offence of attempted armed robbery is liable for not more than 7 years imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
