Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of Housebreaking and Theft by Day reported at Bukit Batok Ave 6.

On 3 August 2015, the victim discovered that cash amounting to about S$200 was missing from his Bukit Batok flat. The cash had been placed on a table near the window which faces the common corridor. Officers from Jurong Division conducted intensive investigations to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 27 August 2015 at Jelebu Road.

The man will be charged in Court on 29 August 2015 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
  • Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
