Police have arrested two youths, aged 15 and 16, for their suspected involvement in a case of Housebreaking and Theft by Day reported at Woodlands Street 13.

On 16 September 2015, the victim discovered the door to his home was left ajar and the lock to his bedroom was damaged. Upon further checks, he found cash and jewellery amounting to about S$3950/- missing. Officers from the Jurong Division conducted extensive investigations to establish the identities of the suspects and arrested them at Woodlands Avenue 1 on 18 September 2015.

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 19 September 2015 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day with Common Intention under Section 454 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
  • Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
