The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man, for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 15 November 2015, the occupants of a residential unit along Petir Road reported the loss of their mobile phones to the Police. The mobile phones were placed in the bedroom near the window which faces the common corridor. Following the report, officers from Jurong Division conducted immediate investigations. Through the review of images from police cameras (POLCAM) and ground enquiries, the officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 7 December 2015, the suspect was arrested along Jalan Besut.

The man will be charged in court on 9 December 2015 for Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
