The Police have arrested a 55-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted housebreaking in Woodlands Drive 73.

On 27 December 2015 at about 3.40pm, officers from Jurong Division responded to a call for assistance, informing that a man had tried to steal undergarments from a HDB unit. The man was detained by the house occupant. Upon Police arrival, preliminary checks revealed that he was in possession of several pieces of undergarment. The man was subsequently placed under arrest and the undergarments were seized as case exhibits.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 29 December 2015 for the offence of Attempted Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years and a fine.

Property owners should adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  1. Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are properly secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks;
  2. Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box;
  3. Secure all doors and windows before retiring to bed or when leaving your house unattended, even for a short while; and
  4. Install a burglar alarm, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
