The Police have arrested a 31-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of Housebreaking and Theft cases along Bukit Timah Road.

Between 14 December 2015 and 18 January 2016, several reports of break-ins at a commercial building located along Bukit Timah Road were reported. Through extensive ground enquiries and investigation, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Woodlands Checkpoint on 20 January 2016.

The suspect will be charged in the Court on 22 January 2016 with the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
  • Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
