The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted snatch theft at Jurong West St 41 on 23 January 2016.

At about 10.20 am on 23 January 2015, a female victim reported that an unknown man had attempted to snatch her mobile phone without success after she had exited from the lift. The suspect fled off when the victim shouted for help.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive follow-up investigation. Through the review of images from Police cameras (POLCAM) and ground enquiries, the officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect. He was eventually arrested in the vicinity of Bukit Batok St 24 on 24 January 2016 at about 2 am, within 16 hours of the report.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 25 January 2016 with an offence of Attempted Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, read with Section 511 of the same Act. If convicted, the suspect faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable for caning.
