Scam Awareness Day & Launch of Anti-Scam Wall Mural @ Buona Vista

A ‘Scam Awareness Day’ was jointly organised by Queenstown Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) and Buona Vista Zone ‘D’ RC this morning at Blk 13 Holland Drive. The event aims to raise awareness and keep the community informed on scams. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Grassroots Adviser to Tanjong Pagar GRC and Radin Mas SMC, Mr Chan Chun Sing graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the Anti-Scam wall mural titled “Stop Donating to the Story-Tellers” by Minister Chan Chun Sing, Mr Tan Kian Hoon, Chairman of National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), and Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Gerald Lim, Commander, Clementi Division. Painted by Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) students, the “Stop Donating to the Story-Tellers” wall mural was the winning entry of the Anti-Scam Wall Mural Competition 2016.

The competition that was held in November 2015, was jointly organised by Queenstown NPC, Buona Vista Grassroots, NCPC and Buona Vista Community Arts and Culture Committee. Through designing wall murals, the competition aims to instil creativity and talent among youths to create awareness in scam prevention. The top three winning designs were painted on designated walls in the Buona Vista estates by the youths.

A crime prevention cake design competition was also held during the event. This competition aims to reinforce the message of scam prevention and also garnered the support of the residents to join in the fight against scams.
