The Police have arrested a 38-year-old man who is believed to be involved in at least 4 cases of break-ins reported at Ang Mo Kio, Sembawang and Bishan estates.

On 12 March 2016, 3 cases of break-ins involving cash and valuables amounting to about $300/- were reported at Ang Mo Kio and Sembawang housing estates.

Upon receipt of the reports, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division conducted extensive enquiries and follow up investigations. With the aid of images from Polcam, the identity of the suspect was established. On 14 March 2016 at about 8pm, through a combined operation, the suspect was arrested at Blk 325 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had used a pole to bring out the valuables from the units. He is also believed to be involved in another case of break-in at Bishan housing estate.

The suspect will be charged in State Court on 16 March 2016 with the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years imprisonment.

The Police would like to advise the public and all home owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Avoid leaving valuables near openings such as windows and doors.
  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
  • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises.
