On 4 April 2016, at about 9.30 pm, through extensive investigations and aided with images from Police Cameras (PolCam), officers from Central Division arrested the suspect at Jalan Minyak. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed loanshark harassments at Jalan Bukit Merah, Bukit Ho Swee and Telok Blangah Rise, by splashing paint on the doors of debtors and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of HDB blocks.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 6 April 2016. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offender found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment of up to 5 years, a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and caning of up to 6 strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment. Those who deliberately vandalise properties will be arrested swiftly and dealt with severely in accordance with the law. Upon conviction, these perpetrators can expect to be caned and jailed for damaging property and causing alarm to the general community. No effort will be spared to nab them to face the full consequences of their misdeeds regardless of their age
