The Police have arrested one man and one woman aged 22 and 26 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 4 April 2016, Police received reports that loanshark related graffiti were found scrawled on the wall near two units in Admiralty Drive. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division managed to trace the identities of the suspects and arrested them at Woodlands on 6 April 2016. Harassment-related paraphernalia comprising a handphone, markers, notebook, $270 cash, a black cap, a POSB ATM card, and a POSB bank book were found in the suspects’ possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have been involved in similar loanshark harassments in Woodlands, Admiralty Drive, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon and Toa Payoh.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 8 April 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
