The Police have arrested two youths aged 17 and 19 years old for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 4 April 2016, Police received a report that a unit at Blk 6 Boon Keng Road was splashed with red paint and had loan-shark related graffiti scribbled on the walls near the staircase landing. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Central Division arrested the suspects in the vicinity of Kallang Way on 6 April 2016.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have committed similar loanshark harassments in the housing estates of Upper Boon Keng and Pasir Ris.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 8 April 2016. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
