The Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 13 April 2016, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment in which a residential unit at Clementi West Street 1 was splashed with paint. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Clementi Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Blk 80 Redhill Lane on 15 April 2016.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Clementi Ave 3 and Boon Lay. A mobile phone, one marker and one paint tin were seized from the suspect as case exhibits.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 16 April 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
