The Police have arrested a 30 year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 13 Apr 2016, Police received a report of loanshark harassment where paint was splashed at the door and loanshark graffiti scrawled on the wall of a residential HDB unit at Choa Chu Kang. Through extensive ground enquiries and the viewing of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), Police identified and arrested the suspect along Lorong 14 Geylang on 18 Apr 2016. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Marsiling, Woodlands and Tampines housing estates. Police seized one mobile phone, apparels, a pair of sandals, three tins of paint, one black marker pen, a bag, a cap and some plastic carriers as case exhibits.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 20 Apr 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
