The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man suspected to be involved in a case of break-in reported at Bukit Batok West Ave 8.

 

On 14 April 2016 at about 3.45am, the victim was awoken by noises from the corridor and spotted an unknown male subject outside his unit. Upon discovery, the man fled. The victim then reported the matter to the Police.

 

Following the report lodged, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive ground enquiries. With the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs), the identity of the suspect was established and he was subsequently arrested along Bukit Batok West Ave 8 on 19 April 2016.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 April 2016 with the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years and a fine.

 

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are properly secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks;

  2. Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box;

  3. Secure all doors and windows before retiring to bed or when leaving your house unattended, even for a short while; and

  4. Install a burglar alarm, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
