From 27 April 2016 (Nomination Day) to 13 May 2016, candidates contesting in the By-Election, or their election agents, may apply for Police permits to conduct post-election vehicle processions to thank voters and constituents. Post-election vehicle processions can only be held after Polling Day, from 8 May 2016 to 14 May 2016 (both dates inclusive) between 7am and 10pm. There is a fee of $50 for the permit.

 

Applications for the permits can be made at the Compliance Management Office in Jurong Division. The address is as follows:

Permits will be issued subject to conditions which include the following:

  1. The person to whom a permit is granted shall not be absent from the procession without reasonable excuse;

  2. The procession shall not deviate from the route/area specified in the permit;

  3. No singing or music, gongs, drums or music-producing equipment shall be played during the procession unless authorised by the police officer granting the permit;

  4. The number of vehicles used for any procession shall not exceed the number specified in the permit;

  5. No banners, posters or placards shall be displayed unless authorised by the police officer granting the permit;

  6. The vehicle(s) shall be kept moving;

  7. The construction of the vehicle or the construction or nature of the advertisement carried shall not —
    1. Cause danger, obstruction or annoyance to persons using the roads;
    2. Obstruct the sight of the driver either to the front or the sides;
    3. Interfere with the ability of the driver to give the signals required by the Road Traffic Rules; and
    4. Render such signals wholly or partially invisible to persons using the roads.


  8. The vehicle(s) shall be driven in a safe manner with due regard to the safety of all passengers on the vehicle(s);

  9. The vehicle(s) shall not be driven at a speed exceeding 15 km/h when carrying any person who is not in a sitting position on the deck of the vehicle(s); and

  10. A policy of insurance relating to the vehicle(s) with respect to any death of, or bodily injury to, any person caused by or arising out of the use of the vehicle on a road shall be in force at all times.

The Compliance Management Office will be open from 8.30am to 6.00pm on weekdays. The office will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays, including Polling Day. Applications are to be submitted at least one (1) working day before the date of the vehicle procession. Applicants will be notified to collect the permit when it is ready.
