The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking along Bukit Batok Street 34.

On 27 April 2016 at about 7.45am, the victim was in his kitchen when he heard a loud noise from his bedroom that was facing the corridor. Upon conducting checks, the victim spotted an unknown man attempting to flee via the bedroom window. The victim then shouted for help and with the assistance of his neighbours, Mr Wong Pi Xiang and Mr Choh Sze Huat, the suspect was detained.

Officers from Jurong Division responded to the scene shortly and placed the suspect under arrest. Two screwdrivers and two pieces of cloth were also seized.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 29 April 2016 with the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  1. Secure all doors and windows with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your house unattended, even for a short while;

  2. Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box; and

  3. Install a burglar alarm, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
