The Police have arrested a 64-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of armed robbery along Cantonment Close.  

 

On 1 May 2016 at about 5.24 pm, Police received a report that an armed man had demanded for money and mobile phone from a female victim.  The female victim handed over her mobile phone to the suspect who eventually fled.

 

Upon receiving the report, officers from Central Division immediately followed up on the case and conducted enquiries in the vicinity of the location where the crime had occurred. The suspect was traced and arrested within 2 hours from the time of the report. The stolen mobile phone was also recovered from the suspect.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 3 May 2016 with the offence of Armed Robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.  If convicted, he faces a jail term which not less than 3 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.
