Victim Care Is A Key Aspect In Investigations Into Sexual Offences

We refer to Dr Laurence Tan Lean Chin’s letter “Are there trained female officers for victims of sexual crime?” on 23 May 2016.

The Police have both male and female officers who are trained in investigating sexual assault cases, and providing victims with the support and care that they need. The victim can request to speak to an investigation officer of the same gender after making a Police report.

There are also dedicated interview rooms to provide privacy so that victims feel as comfortable as possible during the interview process. For victims who require more specialist support, the Police will activate crisis support groups or medical social workers to provide professional counselling and victim care support.

The Police assure the public that victim care is a key aspect in sexual assault investigations and such cases are handled sensitively with a victim-centric approach.
