The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 31 May 2016, the Police received a report of loanshark harassment at a HDB residential unit along Joo Seng Road which had been splashed with paint. Loanshark-related graffiti was also found scrawled on the wall of the lift lobby on the same floor.

 

Officers from Tanglin Division conducted extensive enquiries and acting on information received, the suspect was identified and subsequently arrested on 7 June 2016.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 June 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
