The Police have arrested a 38-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of robbery with hurt along Sophia Road.

 

On 8 June 2016 at about 2.55 a.m., a 21-year-old woman reported to the Police that she was robbed of her clutch bag after being slapped and punched by a man who was following her when she was walking home.

 

The victim’s cries for help were heard by a member of the public who gave chase and managed to detain the subject along Sophia Road. The Police arrived at the scene shortly and arrested the suspect after being alerted to the case. The victim’s bag and belongings were also recovered.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 June 2016 with an offence of Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years and shall also be punished with not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
