The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of extortion at West Coast Drive.

On 13 June 2016 at about 4.48 am, Police received a report lodged by a 39-year-old woman informing that her ex-boyfriend had threatened to expose their past intimate photographs on 12 June 2016. Arising from his threats, the victim withdrew cash amounting to $350.00 and handed it to him before lodging the police report.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Jurong and Clementi Division immediately conducted enquiries to trace the whereabouts of the suspect before arresting him at the ground floor of a HDB block along West Coast Drive within 7 hours from the time the report was received.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 15 June 2016 with the offence of Extortion under Section 384 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.  If convicted, he faces a minimum jail term of 2 years or not more than 7 years, and with caning.
