For the first time, 16 teams of female football enthusiasts took part in the 11th edition of the Delta League. The Delta League is a national competition involving about 2,000 players from 107 teams competing in two different age groups; the Under 16 and Under 18 categories. There were 324 matches played during the June school holidays, making it one of the largest football competitions for youths in Singapore.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) held the Delta League Grand Finals on 26 June 2016 (Sunday) at the OCBC Arena Hall 2, Singapore Sports Hub. Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Minister of State, Ministry of Communication and Information & Ministry of Education, was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.
Besides playing football, the youths participated in other activities such as the Delta League Community Day, which were designed to inculcate in them a sense of social responsibility, teamwork and discipline. The youths became crime prevention ambassadors and helped to spread crime prevention advisory to members of public along Orchard Road and 10 heartland malls across Singapore.
To date, Delta League has benefited over 14,000 youths from all backgrounds.
The next edition of Delta League will run during the December 2016 school holidays.
