Between 2 and 29 June 2016, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a series of raids at Orchard, Ubi, Tampines, Marsiling, Geylang Bahru, Woodlands and arrested a total of eight suspects for their suspected involvement in the sales and distribution of trade mark-infringing goods, comprising mobile phones and speakers, luxury watches, handbags, costume jewellery and apparels. The suspects, five men and three women aged between 27 and 40, are believed to be involved in selling of the trade mark-infringing goods at shops, commercial buildings and via the Internet.

 

A total of 3,367 trade mark-infringing goods with an estimated street value of more than $710,000 were also seized. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.

 

Persons found guilty of selling or distributing infringing goods with falsely applied trade mark may be fined up to a maximum of $100,000, or an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
