The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking along Royal Road on 11 July 2016.

 

On 11 July 2016 at about 2.00 am, Police received a report of break-in at a residence along Royal Road. Officers from Clementi Division conducted extensive ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect. Within two hours from the time of report, officers spotted the suspect fitting the description provided by the victim and arrested him at the junction of Royal Road.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 12 July 2016 with the offence of Housebreaking by Night under Section 456 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years.

 

Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

 

a)         Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are properly secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks;

b)         Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box; and

c)         Install a burglar alarm, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
