On 18 July 2016, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) arrested 4 four men, aged between 26 and 40, for fraudulent possession of approximately 25 metric-ton of Marine Gas Oil (MGO).

On 18 July 2016 at about 4 pm, officers from PCG checked on a foreign registered tug boat at the sea off Northern Tuas. During the check, approximately 25 metric-ton of MGO was found hidden in the buoyancy chambers of the said tug boat. The suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory account of how they had come to possess the MGO. They were arrested and the tugboat was seized for investigations.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 20 July 2016 with an offence of Fraudulent Possession under the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 184. If convicted, the suspects may be punished with imprisonment for a period up to one year, or fine, or both.

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Hsu Sin Yun commended his officers for their excellent work which resulted in this arrest.  He also said that illegal transaction of MGO is a serious offence and PCG will take strict enforcement action against such offenders.
