The Police have arrested a 62-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of house-breaking and theft along Paya Lebar Road.

On 15 July 2016 at about 11.04 pm, the Police received a report that a shop-house unit located along Paya Lebar Road had been broken into and a Samsung mobile phone was stolen.

Through extensive ground enquiries and investigative follow-up, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Irving Place on 19 July 2016 at about 4.15 pm.  The suspect was also arrested for drug-related offences.

Investigations are on-going. The offence of House-breaking and theft by day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
