The Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for his suspected involvement in multiple cases of employment scam.

Since late June 2016, Police reports were received where victims informed that they were cheated of money in alleged employment scams.  The victims had posted their resume on social media platforms to seek jobs, and the suspect had contacted them to arrange for interviews. During the interview, the suspect would collect money from the victims as agent fees.  Using the pretext of preparing a receipt for them, the suspect would then slip away.

Officers from Central Division followed up on the reports and managed to establish the identity the suspect. He was arrested along Lorong 27 Geylang on 21 July 2016 at about 10.00 p.m.  Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect is believed to be involved in several similar cheating cases.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 23 July 2016 with an offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment and fine.

Police would like to remind members of public to be wary when dealing with strangers claiming to be employment agents and to verify their identities before entering into any transactions or handing over any money.
