The Police arrested two men and a woman, aged between 22 and 47, for carrying out fraudulent retail purchases using counterfeit credit cards at several retail outlets located along North Bridge Road and Orchard Road.

On 25 July 2016, Police were informed that purchases were being made using counterfeit cards.

Acting on the information received, Police arrested the trio at Orchard MRT station on the same day. An assortment of forged identity documents, counterfeit cards, and items worth about $23,000, believed to have been purchased with the said credit cards, were recovered.

The three suspects will be charged in Court on 27 July 2016 with the offences of Cheating and Possession of Forged Valuable Security under the Penal Code. Anyone who is convicted of Cheating shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine. Anyone who is convicted of Possession of Forged Valuable Security shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Police would like to take this opportunity to remind merchants and sales staff to exercise vigilance and adopt correct card acceptance procedures when processing credit card transactions, particularly during the current Great Singapore Sale. They should look out for the various security features on the card face. If they are suspicious, they should contact their processing bank immediately for advice.
