The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of house-breaking and theft along River Valley Road.

On 26 July 2016 at about 11.12 am, the Police received a report that a walk-up apartment unit located along River Valley Road had been broken into and an assortment of branded accessories and watches worth about $76,850 were stolen.

Through enquiries and investigative follow-up, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Cantonment Road on 26 July 2016 at about 3.00 pm, within 4 hours from the receipt of the report. The stolen items were also recovered in full.

Investigations are on-going. The offence of House-breaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
