The Police are investigating a 18-year-old man for lodging a false report.

On 28 July 2016 at about 7.45 pm, the man lodged a report at Paya Lebar Neighbourhood Police Post alleging that two unknown men assaulted him and robbed his cash amounting to $60/- at the fitness corner near Blk 351B Canberra Road.

In the course of investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division detected many inconsistencies and established that the man had provided false information to the Police by claiming he was a robbery victim.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

Members of the public are reminded that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
