The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft at the residential estate of Banda Street on 20 July 2016.

On 20 July 2016 at about 11.21 a.m., a 94-year-old woman reported that an unknown man had snatched away her handbag containing cash amounting to $1100 and fled.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Central Division conducted extensive follow-up investigations and eventually established the identity of the suspect.  However, investigations further revealed that the suspect had left Singapore after allegedly committing the offence.  Undeterred, officers pressed on and arrested the suspect at Woodlands Checkpoint on 2 August 2016.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 4 August 2016 with an offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning.
