The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of motor vehicle theft along Koek Road.

 

On 3 August 2016 at about 2.45am, a 39-year-old man reported that his van was stolen along Koek Road. The man had left his vehicle unlocked by the roadside to run an errand nearby. Upon his return, he saw the van being driven away by an unknown person.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Sungei Kadut on 4 August 2016. 

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 5 August 2016 with the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle punishable under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum jail term of seven years’ imprisonment and which shall also be liable to a fine. 

 

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while;

  • Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
