The Police have arrested a 32 year-old suspect who is believed to be involved in a series of break-ins committed at Sengkang and Punggol estates.

On 26 July 2016 at about 9.39 pm, a case of break-in was reported at Blk 310B Punggol Walk, Punggol Waterway Terraces II. Upon returning home, the victim had discovered the glass window of her service balcony removed.  After checking, she realised that cash amounting to S$4800 in local and foreign currencies, as well as jewellery and accessories valued at more than S$18,000, were missing from her home.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigation, before eventually establishing the identity of the suspect. On 6 August 2016 at about 9.52 am, the suspect was arrested at Woodlands.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 8 August 2016 with the offence of House-breaking and Theft under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years.

The Police would like to advise the public and all home owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Avoid leaving valuables near openings such as windows and doors;

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
