The Police are investigating a 22-year-old woman for lodging a false report.
On 8 August 2016 at about 10.52 am, the woman lodged a report at Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre, alleging that an unknown male subject had snatched her sling bag which contained cash amounting to $35 and other personal documents at a bus stop along Yishun Ring Road at about 4am.
In the course of investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division detected many inconsistencies and established that the woman had provided false information by claiming she was a snatch theft victim.
Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
