The Police are investigating a 31-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 27 July 2016 at about 11 pm, the woman who works as a taxi driver had called ‘999’ to report that she was threatened by a passenger with a pointed object and directed to go to Chin Bee. Upon arrival at the location, the passenger alighted and fled from the vehicle.

In the course of investigations, officers from Tanglin Division detected many inconsistencies and established that the woman had provided false information to the police by claiming she was threatened by another person.

Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
