The Police are investigating two men believed to have lodged false reports.

In the first case, on 9 August 2016 at about 3.08pm, a 31-year-old man lodged a report at Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre, alleging that three unknown men had assaulted him along Dickson Road at about 2.40am and robbed him of his bag and wallet which contained cash amounting to $700. In the second case, on 10 August 2016 at about 7.48am, a 24-year-old man had called 999 to report that he had been assaulted and robbed of his gold chain by a man at Blk 232 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

Officers from the Central and Ang Mo Kio Divisions conducted ground enquiries and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that the two men had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the suspects are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
