Man Arrested for Voluntarily Causing Hurt to Deter Public Servant from Duty

The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of Voluntarily Causing Hurt to Public Servant at the car park of Newton Food Centre.

 

On 8 August 2016 at about 12.46 pm, Police received a call informing of a hit-and-run incident at the car park of Newton Food Centre. Upon arrival, a man was found injured. Through preliminary investigations, the driver is believed to have driven the vehicle in the victim’s direction before speeding off and damaging another vehicle along the way. The victim was an auxiliary police officer who was conducting enforcement duties at the time of the incident.

 

Through extensive and protracted follow-up investigations, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Bukit Batok on 17 August 2016. Further investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have used false number plates on the vehicle to evade detection. He is also believed to have committed multiple traffic offences islandwide.

 

The suspect will be charged on 19 August 2016 with the offence of Voluntarily Causing Hurt to deter a Public Servant from his duty under section 332 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with combination of such punishments.
