In conjunction with the Singapore Bike Show 2016, the Traffic Police and the Singapore Road Safety Council launched the Singapore Ride Safe 2016 on Saturday, 20 August 2016 at Singapore Expo Hall 4. Mr Amrin Amin, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs graced the event as Guest-of-Honour.

This year, the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the Workplace Safety and Health Council and Workplace Safety and Health Institute have also come onboard to partner Traffic Police in engaging motorcyclists.

The tagline for this year’s campaign is “Wear Safe. Ride Safe”. Apart from educating and reminding motorcyclists and their pillion riders on safe riding habits, Singapore Ride Safe 2016 aims to reach out to delivery companies to do their part and pledge that their riders will “Wear Safe” and “Ride Safe”.

During the event, Dr. Caroline Simon, a trauma surgeon from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital shared with the motorcycling community on the consequences of not wearing the right protective riding gear. A road safety themed video titled “Wheels of Love” was also screened during the launch. The video touched on the common causes of accidents involving motorcyclists and how wearing and riding safe can save a life and reduce injuries sustained in the event of a traffic accident.

LTA will also be putting up lamppost banners with safe riding messages at various locations to increase awareness on the safety of motorcyclists and encourage safer riding behaviours.

Together with good RoadSense, we can make our road safer for all.
