The Police Coast Guard (PCG) has arrested seven men for unlawful entry into Singapore on 31 August 2016.

In the first case, in collaboration with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), PCG detected five floating objects believed to be swimmers at the sea off Gedong on 31 August 2016. Both land and sea resources were deployed immediately to apprehend the five swimmers. At about 3.10 am, the five men, aged between 19 and 32, were arrested for unlawful entry into Singapore under the Immigration Act, Chapter 133.

For the second case, PCG detected two men swimming towards the Singapore shoreline at the sea off Woodlands Checkpoint on 31 August at about 2.10 am. At about 2.25am, the two men, aged 31 and 36, were detained and arrested for unlawful entry into Singapore under the Immigration Act, Chapter 133.

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun said, "The close collaboration between SPF and ICA which resulted in these successful arrests reaffirms our determination and concerted efforts to stamp out any unlawful attempts to enter Singapore. PCG will continue to work closely with agencies concerned to ensure the Singapore waters are safe and secure.”
