The Police are investigating a 52-year-old man who is believed to have taken upskirt images of a female commuter on board an MRT train.
On 1 September 2016 at about 7.40am, an alert member of public who was travelling on an MRT train towards Changi Airport had noticed a man standing next to a female commuter closely with a black haversack bag placed behind her legs. Sensing something amiss, the member of public confronted the suspect. It was established that the bag contained a small video recorder with the lens protruding out from the bag’s pocket. With the assistance from another two members of the public, the 52-year-old man was detained and the Police was called in.
A black haversack bag and a video recorder have been seized in connection to the case. Investigations against the 52-year-old suspect are ongoing.
Under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, whoever intending to insult the modesty of any woman shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine or with both.
