The Police are investigating a 54-year-old man for lodging a false report.

On 31 August 2016 at about 2.58 pm, the man lodged a report alleging that his motorcycle which was parked at a HDB carpark in front of Blk 8 Joo Seng Road was stolen.

In the course of investigations, officers from Tanglin Division detected many inconsistencies and established that the man had provided false information to the Police by claiming that his motorcycle was stolen.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
